Sarah Eberle

Founder, Sarah Eberle Landscape Design

“I was attracted to Thames Polytechnic by the opportunity it offered to think outside the box, to be open minded. I thoroughly enjoyed it; it was quite a challenge.”

Sarah Eberle is one of the UK’s top landscape designers, having won 12 gold medals at the world famous Chelsea Flower Show and taking the Best in Show award in 2007.

She has also received the Best in Show accolade at the Hampton Court Flower Show, together with two George Cook awards for innovation.

Sarah relishes the challenge of these events: “Show gardens really put you on the spot. It has to be perfection and that allows you the freedom to tackle subjects that you might not otherwise get.”

A particular labour of love was her Best in Show winner at Chelsea, a futuristic garden inspired by the planet Mars which took eight years to develop.

After graduating from the university’s predecessor, Thames Polytechnic, Sarah began her career on urban regeneration projects but soon realised that garden design offered more opportunity to be creative in the way she craved.

Her clients have included L’Oréal, Mercedes Benz, Gucci and The Principality of Monaco. Outside the shows, her commercial projects have taken in many large gardens and country estates.

“I was attracted to Thames Polytechnic by the opportunity it offered to think outside the box, to be open minded. I thoroughly enjoyed it; it was quite a challenge.”

“My greatest strength as a designer is a very good eye and my visualisation skills. That’s the main thing Thames taught me and encouraged. That and my analytical skills.”
