Library

The university libraries are filled with so much more than books. They are great places to work, or collaborate quietly with computers, printers and scanners throughout.

Whether it's help with working with numbers, referencing, exam preparation, making the most of the library's journals, books, databases and resources, our Librarians, Academic Skills Tutors and other members of the library team can help and advise.

The library has its own dedicated resource, LibGuides, which specialises in information ranging from the subject related resources for your courses, to guidance on copyright rules, employability and even filming in the libraries!

LibrarySearch

LibrarySearch is the Library's main search tool, allowing you to cross search many of our print and online collections in one place. Use LibrarySearch to discover books, full text journal articles, conference papers and proceedings, reports, eBooks and some audio visual content.

Facilities and Services

Our facilities

Each library has photocopying facilities and self-service machines for users to beat queues by processing their own loans. Kiosk-style terminals are available for checking email.

Networked PCs, printers and scanners are available in computer laboratories (conveniently situated in the same building as the libraries), with additional resources in other buildings on each campus. There is Internet access, e-mail and a wide range of general and specialist software.

Our computer facilities have work spaces (with and without PCs), which provide access to traditional printed materials and, via our portal, electronic journals, ebooks and databases. Most of these electronic resources can be accessed from home, and the complete holdings of all the libraries are available from  via the Internet.

New starters can have a 20-minute induction to find out about our library facilities and resources. .

Academic support

Our team of expert librarians and academic skills tutors can support you with your studies, especially when you are writing an assignment or at exam time. Enhance your information skills and academic skills by attending a workshop or get personalised help in a 1-2-1 tutorial. Book a session via your Moodle account, the Academic Skills Hub, or LibGuides.

Academic Services Librarians

Each of the University's four Faculties is allocated an  to give specialised advice via web pages, emails and meetings. Library and computing staff provide inductions and information/ computing skills workshops and help is available at any time at the library and computing help desks. Computer laboratory support staff are available to help during opening hours. .
