Dr Ismael Essop
Deputy Head of School of Engineering, Associate Professor in Digital Solutions and Security
Dr Ismael Essop is an experienced academic with over 20 years of experience in Higher Education. He has led highly successful degree apprenticeship programmes. Dr Essop is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and is a Faculty panel reviewer for new programmes within the university. He is also part of the Tech Industry Gold Educator Network, which support the accreditation of Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship. He is the deputy head of the School of Engineering. He leads on the refinement of curricula, policies, or initiatives in the domains of teaching and learning, research and enterprise, employability outcomes, and the student experience, all while remaining at the forefront of cutting-edge practices.
Dr Essop has expertise in the development of anomaly intrusion detection systems (AIDS) in the areas of Internet of Things. His doctoral degree was on the generation of datasets for AIDS in IoT networks.
Ismael was promoted to Associate Professor in Digital Solutions and Security in September 2022, and holds several external examiner positions. He has recently been promoted to the post of Deputy Head of the school of Engineering.
He has published his research in top-tier journals including鈥疎lectronics, Sensors,鈥疘EEE Access鈥痑nd at esteemed international conferences such as鈥疘EEE CAMAD and IFIP.
