This master's course provides the theoretical framework and practical skills you need to become a skilled and effective accountant. You'll learn how accounting and financial information is used to make decisions and how it fits into wider business environments. You also develop practical skills by analysing real data sets in software platforms. Our diverse and international curriculum is based on the latest international accounting standards, making it relevant to home and international students.
The technical aspects of our MSc Accounting and Finance are in line with the requirements set out by the accountancy profession. The programme is accredited with the following professional bodies: ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA and IFA, which offer exemptions including up to 7 ACCA papers, up to 5 ICAEW papers and up to CIMA Management Level. Full details of the accreditation gained on completion of this programme can be checked on each professional bodies' website. The programme is also affiliated with CFA Certificate of ESG Investing.

For entry: applicants with professional qualifications and/or four years of full-time work experience will be considered on an individual basis.
For exemption: If you hold qualifications or courses from another higher education institution, these may exempt you from courses of this degree.
How you will learn
Teaching
In a typical week, learning takes place through a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll be able to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller group sessions. Contact hours may fall between 9am and 9pm, depending on your elective courses and tutorials.
Class sizes
The typical student intake per year is up to 30. Lectures are normally attended by 30-90, and seminars/tutorials by 15-30, based on 2018 intake. This varies by module, particularly if they are shared between degrees.
Independent learning
Outside of timetabled sessions, you'll need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Our Stockwell Street library and online resources will support your further reading and research.

Overall workload
Your overall workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars, etc), independent learning, and assessments. For full-time students, the workload should be roughly equivalent to a full-time job. For part-time students, this will reduce in proportion with the number of modules you are studying.

What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
Some accounting and finance graduates go straight into practice in accountancy firms. This allows you to work with multiple clients across various industries. Alternatively, you could work in areas such as auditing or stockbroking.
Recent positions secured by our graduates include assurance associate at Grant Thornton, financial modeller at KPMG, and counter-risk trader at Barclays Investment Bank.

Access study skills support through your tutor, our subject librarians, and our online academic skills centre.
Where appropriate, we provide support in academic English and mathematics. If you need support to use particular IT packages for a specific module, we provide training for this.

As a Business School student you will be able to enter our Enterprise Challenge, which rewards student entrepreneurship and innovation. Previous winners have received significant prize money to develop their business ideas.
Join groups such as the Trading and Investment Society and take part in student competitions like the UK Trading Challenge. Our team of Greenwich students have repeatedly won this competition.
