Strategic Marketing, MA (Dual Award)
This programme provides graduates a postgraduate qualification that demonstrates expertise in a subject that will help them progress their careers, improve their prospects or change their career paths
This programme gives students an opportunity to develop technical expertise and provides them with experience in using theoretical concepts to solve marketing problems through consultancy projects, live briefs, case studies, and marketing simulations. The programme has a strong international focus within the curriculum. Graduates can use their degrees to launch a career in marketing or as a catalyst for career change or advancement. Potential career options are marketing executive/manager, brand manager, social media analyst, marketing/brand analyst, digital marketing executive, CRM manager, and customer account executive in both profit and non-profit organisations.
It is developed for graduates who wish to learn about the latest developments and practices in marketing. The programme offers students a unique learning experience at the Greenwich Maritime campus in London and the Massey campus in New Zealand.
The programme advances students’ marketing skills and prepares them for the competitive challenges of the global marketplace. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of consumer behaviour, research methods, marketing strategy, and digital marketing. It aims to develop the business leaders of the future and as such, a key tenet of the programme is the development of leadership ethics, confidence and competence, allied to a future employability focus through professional career management and coaching.
The philosophy of personal skills development alongside academic and experiential learning develops students who will leave with confidence in their ability to apply theory into practice, whilst developing creative ideas through working with teams in both local and international settings in identifying the key influences – both external and internal that are likely to become future drivers of organisations.

How you will learn
Teaching
In order to better meet the need of employers, and to equip students with a rich set of horizontal skills, the programme will be designed according to the principles of Enquiry Based Learning (EBL) and Experiential Learning (EL):
- Enquiry Based Learning (EBL). This approach is characterised by the expectation set on the students to actively engage in active research and in solving real problems and issues.
- Experiential Learning (EL) is any learning that supports students in applying their knowledge and conceptual understanding to real-world problems or authentic situations where the instructor directs and facilitates learning (Wurdinger & Carlson, 2010). The crux of the learning occurs during the reflective process where students assess their decisions in the light of natural consequences, mistakes, and successes
Every year students will be engaged in projects, in groups or independently and when possible direct contact with real organisations posing them relevant practical challenges. Such an expectation has an implication for teaching, with a stronger emphasis on practical sessions, use of IT facilities and digital resources and databases, and assessment, with a focus on cases, simulations, presentations and projects.
However, given the recruitment over the past two years, the marketing subject group has become more research-active thus facilitating a more research-informed approach to teaching. Students will also be supported and guided in becoming active participants of the research process, thus supporting the promotion of Research-Based Learning (RBL) to inform the programme pedagogy.
Class sizes
The typical student intake per year is up to 20. Lectures are normally attended by 20-30, and seminars/tutorials by 15-30, based on our 2018 intake. This varies by module, particularly if they are shared between degrees.
Independent learning
Outside of timetabled sessions, you'll need to dedicate time to self-study to prepare for coursework, presentations and exams. Our Stockwell Street library and online resources will support your further reading and research.

Overall workload
Your overall workload consists of contact hours (lectures, seminars, etc), independent learning, and assessments. For full-time students, the workload should be roughly equivalent to a full-time job.

On this course, students are assessed by:
- Individual and group presentations
- Examinations

- Reports
- Article reviews
- Project.
Feedback summary
We aim to provide feedback on assignments and to release examination results within 15 working days.
Dates and timetables
The academic year runs from September to June.

Fees and funding
Part 1 of the course (the first 60 credits studied at Greenwich) is set at 拢7,000.
You then have two options, depending on how you choose to complete the course.
Option 1: I will study Part 2 at Massey and Part 3 at Greenwich.
- Part 2 is paid to Massey based on its 2021 fees
- Part 3 is paid to Greenwich, at 拢3,000.
Option 2: I will study both Part 2 and 3 at Massey.
- Parts 2 and 3 are paid to Massey based on its 2021 fees.
The fee payable to Massey will be shown on once available. This is likely to be higher than the 2020 fees (currently NZ$15,365 per part). It will also differ if you are eligible for domestic New Zealand fees.
Accommodation costs
Whether you choose to live in halls of residence or rent privately, we can help you find what you're looking for. University accommodation is available from 拢126.35 per person per week (bills included), depending on your location and preferences. If you require more space or facilities, these options are available at a slightly higher cost.
Scholarships and bursaries

The Greenwich Bursary
This bursary is worth 拢700 for new undergraduate students with a low household income, entering Year 0 or 1 who meet the eligibility criteria.
EU Bursary
Following the UK's departure from the European Union, we are supporting new EU students by offering a substantial fee-reduction for studying.
Financial support
We want your time at university to be enjoyable, rewarding, and free of unnecessary stress, so planning your finances before you come to university can help to reduce financial concerns. We can offer advice on living costs and budgeting, as well as on awards, allowances and loans.
Further costs may include (but are not limited to):
- Resources: you may need to purchase books and specific computer software (estimate, 拢150 per year). Our Stockwell Street library offers an extensive range of books for loan, as well as access to journals and digital resources.
- Memberships: applying for membership of a professional body may incur further costs. Details can be found on their websites.
- Travel: travel and the cost of living in New Zealand needs to be covered by students. A limited number of students may be eligible for a scholarship through the Erasmus+ overseas exchange programme. Further details will be provided when you receive an offer.
- Non-tuition: Students at Massey pay non-tuition study fees of typically less than NZ$1,000 per year.

Will I have a work placement?
The programme has a compulsory study abroad element in New Zealand as an integral part of its design.
What sort of careers do graduates pursue?
Graduates pursue their management career in a wide range of multinational companies, non-government and public sector organisations. Some might find employment in small and medium enterprises in international trade, and local or central government.
Some graduates of similar courses have joined ABN AMRO, Accenture, CNN, Hertz and Kerry Group.

Access study skills support through your tutor, our subject librarians, and our online academic skills centre.
Where appropriate, we provide support in academic English and mathematics. If you need support to use particular IT packages for a specific module, we provide training for this.
